Emergency Air Conditioning Repair / HVAC Repair Service

Air conditioners and HVAC systems usually need repairs at the most inconvenient times, such as the hottest day of summer, in the evening, or during the weekend. This means you could be waiting for a while for an air conditioner repair. However, at Griffith, your comfort is our priority. We offer 24/7 emergency air conditioner and HVAC repair services.

Sometimes we can help diagnose an issue over the phone to help you avoid the unnecessary cost of a service call, but we are ready to serve your emergency HVAC and air conditioner repair needs anytime.

Common Issues with HVAC Air Conditioning Systems

Here are some of the most common issues we typically find with HVAC and air conditioning systems. You might be able to handle some of these issues yourself rather than paying for an air conditioner repair service visit. However, you should call us if your air conditioner is leaking refrigerant or making strange noises.

  • Air Conditioner Won’t Turn On: Make sure your thermostat is set properly before checking your home’s electrical panel for a tripped breaker. If the breaker is simply tripped, you may not require a repair call.
  • Air Isn’t Cold: Make sure your home’s thermostat settings are at the proper temperature and that your thermostat has power. Then replace the air filter with a new one, if you haven’t done this in the past few months. A clean air filter can increase your HVAC’s efficiency and indoor air quality. Make sure the outdoor unit isn’t obstructed by grass, weeds, leaves, or other debris and that it isn’t leaking refrigerant. If you discover a refrigerant leak, call us at (804) 744-0850 for assistance. If your air conditioner was purchased earlier than 2011, it probably relies on a hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) refrigerant (also known as Freon®, or R-22). This refrigerant is no longer being made because of its bad effects on the ozone layer. Since there are only extremely limited, recycled quantities, repairing an R-22 refrigerant leak can be extremely expensive. We usually suggest a new HVAC or air conditioning installation in this situation.
  • Uneven Cooling: Uneven cooling often doesn’t require an ac repair service visit. Fluctuating temperatures or humidity that’s too high are often caused by leaky ducts, not enough insulation, or blocked registers. If none of these issues is your culprit, you may want to consider adding blackout curtains to your home’s south-facing windows. You can also call us during our regular office hours at (804) 744-0850 to discuss the possibility of installing an electric zoning system to regulate temperatures in specific rooms of your home.
  • Water Dripping from Air Conditioning Unit: Check the condensation line for clogs. This is the PVC pipe going out of your air conditioner. Leaking refrigerant can also cause ice to collect on the coils and drip water. AC service will be required to fully repair your air conditioner if it is encased in ice. If this happens, it should be treated as an emergency ac repair.
  • Air Conditioner is Making Strange Noises: Screeching, clanging, banging, or clicking sounds suggest potentially dangerous problems. If you’re hearing unusual or odd air conditioner noises, shut it off and call Griffith Heating and Cooling to schedule your AC repair service, (804) 744-0850.

If these troubleshooting tips don’t solve your cooling issues, our experts at Griffith Heating and Cooling are available to assist you.
